Carpal Tunnel

Carpal Tunnel

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, referred to as Carpal Tunnel, is when the median nerve in the forearm becomes irritated and inflamed. The most common cause of Carpal Tunnel is repetitive movement of the hands, but several illnesses and conditions can lead to the same result. It may occur in one or both hands causing numbness, tingling and shooting pain. Several treatments include night splints, steroids, medications or physical therapy.

How Can Bio-Alliance Help?

If those don't ease the pain, it might be time for you to try an orthobiologic treatment. At Bio-Alliance Medical Group we offer three different treatment options, including Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP). PRP is an all-natural treatment option that uses your own body’s healing agents. To obtain PRP, we perform a routine blood draw. Once that is complete, we place the blood in a centrifuge for five minutes to spin. After the spin, we separate the healing agents (plasma) from the rest of the blood. It's then injected into the injured area under ultrasound guidance.

Does It Really Work?

Six-Month Efficacy of Platelet-Rich Plasma for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, is a journal based on a study conducted to see the effects of PRP on Carpal Tunnel after six months. The study consisted of 60 participants split evenly in two groups, PRP and Control. The candidates in the orthobiologic group received one injection of PRP under ultrasound guidance while the Control group was placed in a night splint for the duration of the study. Each group was evaluated by the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pre-procedure, one month, three months and six months post-procedure.   PAIN RELIEF BIGGER GRAPH   By reviewing the VAS results from the participants, this study is a clear indicator that  PRP is a great option for long-lasting pain relief! Participants in the PRP group had a steady decrease in pain levels from the first month post-procedure to six months post-procedure. However, the control group didn’t show a significant drop in pain.
